Steps

  1. 1

Choose the way you will use Grok

Use the free Grok app to test prompts, a paid plan for more usage, or an xAI API key if a tool such as Threadgehog does the writing for you.

  2. 2

    Paste your voice samples first

Paste five of your X posts and ask Grok to describe the pattern: length, opener, close, words you never use.

  3. 3

Ask for a batch with the platforms named

Give the product, the angle and the count. Ask for an X version and a Threads version of each, inside each platform's character limit.

  4. 4

Edit three drafts and say why

Tell Grok what you cut and ask it to turn each reason into a rule. Keep the rules in a note you paste at the start of a new chat.

  5. 5

Post from your scheduler or from X

Copy approved posts into X, Threads or your scheduler and pick the time there.

What Grok is and who uses it for posts

Grok is xAI's assistant (xAI's current docs use the company name SpaceXSI). It runs at grok.com and in the iOS and Android apps, and xAI's docs say you can chat, create images and video with Grok Imagine, talk by voice, upload files and connect tools.

People who post on X use it because X benefits come with the paid subscription and Grok comes in the same subscription. It is a general assistant that writes text for X and Threads.

This guide covers the plans, what the X benefits are, what Grok Bot adds, and how to prompt Grok for X and Threads posts.

Grok plans and pricing (as of October 2026)

xAI's pricing documentation lists The X Subscription, which brings Grok, Cursor and X together. Monthly list prices are Free at $0, Plus at $8, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200. Annual prices are $80, $300, $1,000 and $2,000. Included usage is Base on Plus, then 4x on Premium, 15x on Super and 50x on Ultra.

The usage comes from one weekly pool shared by Grok and Cursor, so heavy coding in Cursor draws from the same allowance as chat. Third-party models in Cursor are billed separately. Prices exclude sales tax.

Existing Cursor, SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue unless you change or cancel them, and switching is optional. The grok.com plans page shows prices in your local currency, so the dollar figures here come from xAI's docs.

X benefits and Grok Bot

Paid individual plans include X Premium benefits once you connect a personal X account. xAI says Plus gives a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads, while Premium, Super and Ultra give full X Premium+ benefits. The grok.com plans page also lists enhanced creator tools and advanced analytics among the X benefits.

Grok Bot is a separate product on Premium, Super and Ultra. It is an agent that works on a cloud computer, and xAI's docs describe tagging @bot in a post or reply on X to hand that post to your Bot as a task. @bot replies with a short confirmation, and the results stay in the Grok Bot app.

Grok Bot also saves skills and routines. A routine runs a workflow on a schedule, so you could have it assemble a weekly list of ideas. Threadgehog then gives you the finished posts in Export only mode, or sends them to a scheduler, for X and Threads.

Threads and X support, scheduling and limits

For X, the paid X benefits come through the subscription and your connected X account. For Threads, Grok writes the draft and you paste it in, or Threadgehog sends the approved post to Buffer, Typefully, Publer, Metricool or Postiz; its Export only mode gives you the finished posts to paste.

The character limits belong to X and Threads. Longer posts on X are covered in X Premium long posts, and the limits are in the X character limit and the Threads character limit.

For API users, xAI lists grok-4.7 at $2.00 per million input tokens and $6.00 per million output tokens for prompts under 200k tokens, and double that above. API credits are separate from the subscription.

How to prompt Grok for X and Threads posts

Give Grok real posts, not a mood. Paste five and ask it to list the traits they share. Then ask for a batch that follows those traits.

A prompt that works: "Here are five posts of mine. List what they have in common. Write 8 posts about [feature]. For each, give an X version and a Threads version inside the character limits. One idea per post. No hashtags. No rhetorical question openers." Review, keep the best two, and ask for six more.

Keep the rules in a note. Paste your voice rules at the start of each new chat, and update the note each time you correct a draft.

Using Grok together with Threadgehog

Threadgehog is a Mac app that writes Threads and X posts from about ten example posts, holds them in a review queue, and sends approved posts to Buffer, Typefully, Publer, Metricool or Postiz.

In Threadgehog you connect Grok with an xAI API key from console.x.ai. You pay xAI directly for what you use, and Threadgehog adds no charge per post. The model menu in the app lists Grok 4.7. Setup is in the Grok guide.

Threadgehog has a 14-day free trial when it opens (cancel before day 15 and you are not charged). Solo is $29 a month or $249 a year for 2 projects, Pro is $49 a month or $399 a year for 10 projects, and Unlimited is $79 a month, $649 a year, or $1,199 once for lifetime.
