Comparison

Threadgehog vs ChatGPT for writing social posts in your voice

Short answer

ChatGPT can write Threads and X posts, but you paste your samples and rules, copy each result out by hand, and nothing queues or publishes. Threadgehog stores your brand voice, writes a daily batch, learns from approvals and sends posts to your scheduler. It can also write using your own ChatGPT plan through Codex.

ChatGPT can write your posts

ChatGPT is a good drafting partner. Paste five of your best posts, describe your tone, and ask for ten new ones, and you will get usable drafts. Plus is $20 a month and Pro starts at $100 a month (OpenAI help pages, October 2026). A free tier also exists.

The Zapier guide on training ChatGPT to write like you recommends Custom Instructions and pasted samples. That works, and it is manual: the setup lives in the chat, and the voice rules need re-tuning by hand when your voice changes.

What a chat window does not do

A chat does not hold a queue. You copy each post out, paste it into a scheduler, pick a time, and repeat. It also does not learn from what you publish or which drafts you reject unless you tell it in the next message.

Threadgehog keeps the parts around the writing. Drafts wait in Pending. You approve with A or the right arrow, reject with R or X, and approved posts line up in the Queue. Swipe Mode (Option-Command-4) shrinks the app to a small card above your other windows so you can review while you work.

A week with each

In ChatGPT, Monday starts by pasting your voice notes and samples, asking for a week of posts, then copying each into a scheduler and picking times. Next Monday you do it again, adjusting the prompt if the posts drifted.

In Threadgehog, Monday is a Pending list. You approve what is good. The posts you approved are in the Queue, and the voice rules have been rewritten from what you chose and rejected. Next Monday's batch starts from those rules.

The first week may feel similar. By the fourth, the difference is how much of the upkeep you still do by hand.

Images and extras

ChatGPT generates images in chat, and you download and attach them. Threadgehog attaches your own image or video to a post, or generates one with the images your plan includes (30 a month on Solo, 75 on Pro, 150 on Unlimited), your ChatGPT subscription at no extra cost, or an API key from Replicate, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok or OpenRouter.

Plan images reset every 30 days and unused ones do not carry over. Image packs never expire, and you can buy more in Settings > Images or on your account page.

Claude works the same way

If you pay for Claude instead, the same card works with Claude Pro or Max through Claude Code. See using your Claude subscription.

Voice and learning

Threadgehog reads 10 to 20 posts that did well and builds six voice notes. It uses all six every time it writes. When you approve and reject drafts, Learn now rewrites the rules. Up to 8 of your most recent approved posts go along as examples. See how to make AI write in your voice.

You can get close to this in ChatGPT with a long saved prompt. The difference is who does the upkeep.

Using your ChatGPT plan inside Threadgehog

If you already pay for ChatGPT Plus or Pro, Threadgehog can write with it through Codex, which runs on your Mac. In Settings > AI, pick Use my Claude or ChatGPT subscription, then ChatGPT subscription. The app shows two Terminal commands: one installs Codex, the other signs you in. Press Test.

Threadgehog never sees your ChatGPT login and nothing extra is charged by us. Each draft counts toward your plan's limits, and when you reach one, Threadgehog says so and you can switch to Threadgehog AI. This uses Codex, not the ChatGPT app. More in the ChatGPT plan guide.

What each costs

ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month is a general assistant. Threadgehog's list prices are Solo $29, Pro $49 and Unlimited $79 a month, with 300, 750 or 1,500 AI drafts and 30, 75 or 150 images a month, or $1,199 once for lifetime Unlimited. Yearly list prices are $249, $399 and $649. The Mac app is on a waitlist, and the 14-day trial with 50 AI drafts starts when it opens. See pricing.

Where ChatGPT is a good fit

ChatGPT is the right pick when you post a few times a week, enjoy shaping each post in conversation, and want one tool for emails, outlines and research as well. It also costs less per month if posting is a small part of what you do.

It works on web, desktop and mobile, so you can draft on a phone. If your volume is low, a saved set of instructions and a quick copy and paste is a reasonable system.

Questions

Can ChatGPT write my Threads posts?

Yes, if you paste samples and rules. You re-prompt each time, and nothing queues or posts for you. See the full answer.

Can ChatGPT post to Threads or X for me?

Its pricing page lists no publishing to Threads or X. You copy each post out and publish it yourself or in a scheduler.

Does ChatGPT learn my voice automatically?

Not from your published posts. Custom Instructions and pasted samples work, but you maintain them by hand, per the Zapier guide.

Can Threadgehog use my ChatGPT Plus plan?

Yes, ChatGPT Plus or Pro, through Codex, with no API key. It does not use the ChatGPT app.

How much is ChatGPT Plus?

$20 a month, per OpenAI's help center in October 2026. Pro starts at $100 a month.

Is Threadgehog just ChatGPT with a wrapper?

Threadgehog can write with several providers: Threadgehog AI, your Claude or ChatGPT plan, or your own key. The product is the saved voice, the queue, the learning and the publishing path around the model.

Which one should I pick for daily posting?

If you want drafts waiting each day and a queue, Threadgehog. If you write a few posts a week by hand, ChatGPT is enough.
