“Can I use my Claude subscription to write social media posts?”
Can I use my Claude subscription to write social media posts?
Short answer
Yes. In Threadgehog, open Settings > AI, choose Use my Claude or ChatGPT subscription, then Claude subscription, and Claude Code writes your drafts on your Pro or Max plan with no API key. It works through Claude Code on your Mac, not the Claude app, and drafts count toward your plan's limits.
Steps
- 1
Open Settings > AI
In Threadgehog, press Command-comma and open the AI tab.
- 2
Choose Use my Claude or ChatGPT subscription
This card is marked Recommended in setup. Pick Claude subscription (Pro or Max).
- 3
Run the two Terminal commands
The app shows two commands. One installs Claude Code. The other signs you in to your own Claude account.
- 4
Press Test
A working setup confirms the connection. Your plan now writes drafts.
- 5
Watch the limits
Each draft counts toward your plan's usage limit. When you reach it, Threadgehog tells you and you can switch to Threadgehog AI.
How it works
Threadgehog uses Claude Code, Anthropic's command-line tool, which runs on your Mac and signs in with your own account. Threadgehog does not see your Claude login. It runs Claude Code with its tools turned off, so it cannot touch your files.
This arrived in Threadgehog 1.1 and runs through Claude Code, which comes with your Claude Pro or Max plan.
Usage limits
Drafts use the same Claude limits as the rest of your work. If you run Claude Code all day for coding, a large daily batch of posts competes with it. Threadgehog says when you reach a limit and lets you switch to Threadgehog AI, your own API key or another provider.
More posts a day use more of your plan's limits. Settings let you choose how many posts are written each day, from 1 to 500.
What you need first
A Claude Pro or Max plan, a Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later, and Terminal. The app shows the two commands to paste, so you do not need to know Claude Code beforehand. The setup page in the Claude plan guide covers the same steps with screenshots.
The Mac app is on a waitlist now. The same setup applies once it opens.
If the test fails
Make sure both Terminal commands finished. The first installs Claude Code and the second signs you in. If Test fails after that, run the sign-in command again and press Test once more.
If you see a message about limits, you have used your plan's allowance for now. Switch to Threadgehog AI or your own key until it resets, then switch back. Your drafts, queue and media stay on your Mac either way.
Mixing providers
Writing and images are separate settings. You can write with your Claude plan and make images with your ChatGPT subscription, your included monthly images, or an API key from Replicate, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok or OpenRouter. Paid plans include Threadgehog images each month: 30 on Solo, 75 on Pro and 150 on Unlimited.
Other ways to pay for the writing
Every Threadgehog plan includes Threadgehog AI: 300 drafts a month on Solo, 750 on Pro and 1,500 on Unlimited, and the free trial includes 50. You can also connect an OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, xAI or Moonshot key and pay the provider directly, with no per-post charge from Threadgehog. Your key is stored in your Mac's Keychain. See the Claude plan guide and Claude plan guide.
The ChatGPT version
The same card works with a ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan through Codex. Read the answer about ChatGPT writing Threads posts.
Why bother
If you already pay for Claude, the drafting costs nothing extra, and the queue, voice notes, learning and publishing path come with Threadgehog. The Mac app is on a waitlist; the 14-day trial with 50 AI drafts starts when it opens. See pricing.
