“Can ChatGPT write my Threads posts?”

Can ChatGPT write my Threads posts?

Short answer

Yes. ChatGPT drafts good Threads posts when you paste samples and rules, but you re-prompt every time, copy each post out, and nothing queues or publishes for you. Threadgehog can write with your ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan through Codex and adds the saved voice, review queue, learning and publishing.

What ChatGPT does well

Give ChatGPT five posts and a tone description and ask for ten more, and you will get usable drafts in seconds. It is also good at rewriting a post shorter, finding a stronger opener or turning a blog paragraph into a post.

ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month and Pro starts at $100 a month (OpenAI help center, October 2026). There is a free tier as well.

What stays manual

ChatGPT has no queue, scheduling or publishing to Threads or X. You copy each post and paste it into Threads or a scheduler. The voice lives in your Custom Instructions and pasted samples, as the Zapier guide on training ChatGPT to write like you describes, and you re-tune it by hand when your voice changes.

It also does not learn from what you publish or reject unless you tell it in the next message.

If you stay with ChatGPT

Give it real examples, not adjectives. Paste five posts that did well, ask it to list what they have in common, then ask for ten new posts that follow those patterns. Save the list as your Custom Instructions.

Ask for the Threads version under 500 characters and the X version under 280 so you do not trim by hand. Edit before you post. The Zapier guide on training ChatGPT to write like you describes the same loop.

Where plain ChatGPT struggles

The usual problems are drift and repetition. Over a long chat, posts start to sound alike, or the voice slides toward generic. Starting a fresh chat resets the voice unless you paste your instructions again.

Threadgehog keeps the six voice notes and your approved posts outside the chat, so every batch starts from the same place. It also keeps threads in order and writes the X version aimed at 280 characters.

A note on what you paste

Anything you paste into a chat goes to that provider. Threadgehog's design differs in one respect: drafts, queue and media are stored on your Mac, and your own key is kept in the Keychain. A request passes through Threadgehog's server to the provider and the server stores none of it.

Using ChatGPT inside Threadgehog

If you already pay for Plus or Pro, you do not need to buy more AI. In Threadgehog, open Settings > AI, choose Use my Claude or ChatGPT subscription, then ChatGPT subscription (Plus or Pro). The app shows two Terminal commands: one installs Codex, the other signs you in to your own account. Press Test.

Your plan then writes your drafts with no API key and nothing extra to pay us. Threadgehog never sees your ChatGPT login. It connects through Codex, not the ChatGPT app. Each draft counts toward your plan's limits, and when you reach one, Threadgehog says so and you can switch to Threadgehog AI. Setup details are in the ChatGPT plan guide.

What the app adds

The model is the same kind of model. What changes is the system around it: a saved voice built from 10 to 20 example posts, a Pending list to approve or reject, a Queue, learning from your decisions and sending to Buffer, Typefully, Publer, Metricool or Postiz.

Which to pick

Stay with plain ChatGPT if you post a few times a week and enjoy shaping each post. Move to a tool with a queue when you want a daily habit without daily prompting. The Mac app is on a waitlist now; the 14-day trial with 50 AI drafts starts when it opens. See pricing.

Questions

Can ChatGPT post to Threads for me?

No. Its pricing page lists no publishing to Threads or X. You copy and paste each post.

How do I get ChatGPT to sound like me?

Paste 10 to 20 of your best posts, ask it to describe the patterns and save that description in Custom Instructions. See making AI write in your voice.

Does ChatGPT learn from my published posts?

Not automatically. You update the instructions by hand.

Can I use my ChatGPT Plus plan in Threadgehog?

Yes, ChatGPT Plus or Pro, through Codex. It does not use the ChatGPT app.

How much does ChatGPT Plus cost?

$20 a month, per OpenAI's help center in October 2026.

Is the free tier enough?

For a few drafts, yes. Free tier limits change, so check OpenAI's page.
