Can Claude post to Threads and X?

Short answer

Claude has no social accounts of its own, so it posts through a connector. Eden lists X and Threads, Buffer connects Claude Desktop, Cowork and Code with an API key, and OpenTweet's own page says it covers X, not Threads. Threadgehog takes a different route: a private server on your Mac that Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can use to draft, approve and send posts through your scheduler.

Why Claude cannot post alone

Claude, whether in the app, the API or Claude Code, has no Threads or X accounts of its own and no login to yours. To post, something has to hold the platform connection: a scheduler with an API key, a hosted connector, or a tool on your machine that Claude can drive.

That is what MCP (Model Context Protocol) is for: a standard way for Claude to call tools an outside program exposes. Every option in the table is some version of that.

How to read the table

Rows come from each vendor's own pages where we could read them, checked October 2026. Eden's row summarizes Eden's own comparison post from August 20, 2026, which is competitor-authored, so treat its claims about other tools as Eden's. Buffer's own connector page did not open for us, so the Buffer row leans on its pricing pages and Eden's table.

OpenTweet sits outside the table because its own page says it covers X, with Threads unsupported, and that is the whole of what we can state about it.

Set up Claude Code with Threadgehog

In Threadgehog, open Settings, Agents, and turn on Allow agents on this Mac to use Threadgehog. That starts a private server on your Mac, at 127.0.0.1, that only an agent with your token can reach. Pick Claude Code under Connect an agent and run the snippet it fills in:

The same tab connects Codex and Cursor the same way. Threadgehog must stay open while the agent works, and the token lives in your Mac's Keychain. The full walkthrough, including what each agent tool can do, is on the Claude Code integration page.

claude mcp add --scope user threadgehog -- /usr/local/bin/threadgehog mcp-stdio

Keep a human approve step

An agent that can post can also post badly. In Threadgehog every draft waits in Pending until you approve it, and the send-now tool for agents is off until you turn on Let agents send posts in Settings, Agents. Regenerate the token any time to cut a connected agent off.

If you want Claude to write with your own Claude plan rather than Threadgehog's AI, that is a separate setting covered in using your Claude subscription for social posts.

What it costs

Threadgehog charges nothing extra to connect an agent. Claude Code runs on your own Claude plan or API billing, and drafts an agent asks for still use the AI provider set up in Threadgehog's settings.

The other connectors bill their own way: Buffer and Typefully have free plans, Postiz starts at $29 a month for cloud or is free self-hosted, and Eden's pricing was not listed in what we read.

Alternatives

1

Threadgehog

Best for: Letting Claude Code run your queue on your Mac

Price: Solo $29 a month (list price, October 2026)

Threadgehog runs a private server on your Mac that Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Claude Desktop or Gemini CLI can use to draft, approve and send posts. Nothing passes through anyone else's cloud, and every draft can wait for your approval.

  • Runs on 127.0.0.1, this Mac only
  • Token in your Keychain, regenerate any time
  • Review step on by default
2

Eden

Best for: Scheduling posts from Claude

Price: Not listed in what we read

Eden publishes to X and Threads through a connector built for Claude. Its comparison post from August 20, 2026 also lists Postiz, Buffer and Typefully as options, so read the vendor's own pages before choosing.

  • Built for Claude
  • Lists X and Threads
3

Buffer

Best for: A scheduler with a Claude connection

Price: Free plan; Essentials $5 a month per channel, billed yearly

Buffer's scheduler covers Threads, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and Bluesky, and its AI Assistant helps in the composer. Eden's comparison post describes Buffer connecting Claude Desktop, Cowork and Code with an API key.

  • Free plan
  • Many networks
  • AI Assistant on every plan
4

Typefully

Best for: Writing-focused scheduling with agent access

Price: Free plan; Creator $99 a year

Typefully's pricing page lists an API, an MCP server and agent skills on its Free plan, so an agent such as Claude Code can write into its editor. Its writing assistant is on Creator and up.

  • MCP on the Free plan
  • Thread editor
  • Six networks
5

Postiz

Best for: Agent-driven posting on many channels

Price: Standard $29 a month for 5 channels, or self-hosted

  • Agent setup pages
  • Unlimited posts on cloud plans
  • Open source
6

OpenTweet

Best for: X-only posting

Price: Not listed in what we read

OpenTweet's own answer page about posting from Claude says it covers X, with Threads unsupported. If Threads is in your plan, read its pages before committing.

  • Covers X
  • Publishes answer pages on automation rules

Questions

Can Claude post to Threads?

Only through a connector that holds the platform connection. Eden lists Threads, Buffer and Typefully publish to Threads, and Threadgehog's agent server lets Claude Code draft, approve and send Threads posts through your scheduler.

Can Claude Code schedule posts?

With Threadgehog, yes: it can generate drafts, approve them into the queue and trigger a send. With a scheduler such as Buffer or Typefully, it writes into the queue through that tool's API or MCP server.

Which MCP server supports Threads?

Typefully lists an MCP server with Threads support, and Threadgehog exposes an MCP server on your Mac that publishes to Threads through your scheduler. Eden lists Threads as a platform.

Do I need an API key?

For Buffer and Typefully, yes: you paste their API keys into the tool. For Threadgehog's agent server, no; the token is generated in the app and stored in your Mac's Keychain.

Is it safe to give Claude my accounts?

With Threadgehog, Claude never receives your account credentials: the agent server runs on your Mac, every request needs a token you can regenerate, and posts go out through the scheduler you already trust.

Can I review before it posts?

Yes. In Threadgehog every draft waits in Pending for your approval, and agent sending is off until you turn it on. Buffer, Typefully and Postiz also keep their own approval queues.

Does it cost extra?

Threadgehog does not charge for agent access. Claude Code bills against your own Claude plan, and each scheduler bills its own plans.

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol, a standard way for AI agents such as Claude to call tools another program exposes. Threadgehog's agent server speaks it, as do the MCP servers Typefully and others offer.
