Best Threads schedulers in 2026

Short answer

Schedulers publish to Threads through Meta's API, which allows 500 characters a post and 250 published posts per profile in 24 hours. They differ on multi-post threads, media and what their plans include. Buffer's help page says it does not support Threads polls, GIFs or alt text and caps a multi-post thread at 25 posts. Threadgehog writes the posts and sends them to Buffer, Typefully, Publer, Metricool or Postiz.

How Threads publishing works

Every scheduler on this page publishes to Threads through Meta's Threads API, so Meta's limits apply to all of them: 500 characters for a text post, 250 published posts per profile in 24 hours, a carousel counts as one post, and a post can carry 5 links or fewer. The full list is in Threads posting limits.

On top of Meta's limits, each scheduler sets its own plan limits: how many channels you connect, how many posts sit in its queue, and how many it keeps per channel. Those numbers, not Meta's, are what usually decide which plan you need.

How to read the table

Every fact below comes from the scheduler's own pages or from Threadgehog's connection guides for it, checked October 2026. Where a tool publishes no number, the cell says so instead of guessing.

Prices are list prices and exclude tax. Publer and Metricool charge per social account, so two networks means two accounts.

Free ways to schedule Threads posts

Two free options exist today. One is Threads' own scheduler, built into the composer, which costs nothing and needs no account connection: schedule Threads posts natively.

The other is a free plan from a scheduler. Buffer's Free plan connects up to 3 channels, includes API access and holds 10 scheduled posts per channel. Typefully's Free plan covers 10 posts a month on 1 social set. Publer and Metricool include their APIs only on paid plans, and Postiz is free if you host it yourself.

Which scheduler fits which job

Buffer fits a free start and steady growth: the Free plan is enough to try scheduling, and paid plans add API keys and requests.

Typefully fits people who write, because the editor is the product. Publer and Metricool fit analytics-heavy setups; note that their APIs sit on paid plans, so the entry price is higher than the headline. Postiz fits many channels or self-hosting: every cloud plan includes the API and unlimited posts.

Polls, GIFs and alt text

These details are where most lists go quiet. Buffer's help page states plainly that Threads polls, GIFs, alt text and scheduled reposts are unsupported, so plan around them if Buffer is your scheduler.

Typefully's Threads page lists text, images, videos and GIFs. For Publer, Metricool and Postiz we could not open a statement on Threads polls or alt text, so check each tool's help pages before you build a content plan on them.

What none of them do

None of these tools writes your posts. They publish what you hand them, on a schedule you set. That is the split this site is built on: Threadgehog writes the drafts, you approve them, and the scheduler you already use publishes them.

Questions

What is the best free Threads scheduler?

Threads' own scheduler is free and built into the composer. Among tools, Buffer's Free plan connects up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each, and Typefully's Free plan covers 10 posts a month (checked October 2026).

Can I schedule a multi-post thread on Threads?

Yes. Buffer publishes multi-post threads up to 25 posts, and Typefully and Postiz publish multi-post threads. Through Threadgehog's connection, Publer and Metricool take single posts, so a thread is joined into one post.

Can schedulers post Threads polls?

Buffer's help page says Threads polls are unsupported. For the other tools we found no statement on Threads polls, so check each tool's help pages before you plan on them.

Do schedulers support GIFs on Threads?

Buffer's help page lists GIFs as unsupported for Threads. Typefully's Threads page lists GIFs among what it publishes.

Does a scheduled post look different from a native one?

No Meta statement we could find says scheduled posts are marked or ranked differently. Scheduler posts publish through the same API as any other tool.

Do I need an Instagram account to connect Threads?

For Buffer, yes: its help page says the Threads account must be public and linked to an Instagram account. Threads profiles are set up through Instagram in the first place.

How many Threads posts can a scheduler publish a day?

Meta's API allows 250 published posts per profile in 24 hours. Schedulers add their own caps: Buffer limits API requests to 250 per 24 hours per key on most plans, and Publer's Business plan allows 250 Threads posts per profile a day.

Is Threads scheduling built into the app?

Yes. The composer's three-dot menu has had a Schedule option since January 2025, and scheduled posts wait in your drafts folder.
