“What are the Threads posting limits?”
What are the Threads posting limits?
Short answer
Threads text posts are limited to 500 characters. Meta's API allows 250 published posts per profile in 24 hours, a carousel counts as one post, and a post can contain 5 links or fewer. Threadgehog writes each X version aimed at 280 characters and keeps your link.
Side by side
Threads posting limits, from Meta's Threads API documentation, checked October 2026.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Characters in a text post | 500 |
| Published posts per profile per 24 hours (API) | 250 |
| Carousel | Counts as one post |
| Links per post | 5 or fewer; more than 5 fails from December 22, 2025 |
| Replies per profile per 24 hours (API) | 1,000 |
| Deletions per profile per 24 hours (API) | 100 |
| Location searches per profile per 24 hours (API) | 500 |
The numbers from Meta
Meta's Threads API documentation says text posts are limited to 500 characters and profiles are limited to 250 published posts within a 24-hour period. It says publishing a carousel counts as a single post against that limit.
On links, it says the number of links is restricted to 5 or less. From December 22, 2025, posts with more than five links fail during media creation.
Replies, deletions and location searches have their own quotas: 1,000 replies, 100 deletions and 500 location searches per profile per 24 hours through the API. The API overview page also documents threads_publishing_limit, the part of the API that reports the publishing limits in force.
What this means for schedulers
Scheduling tools publish through the same API, so the same limits apply. The documentation we checked has no statement about scheduling support, so ask your scheduler about its own limits. Buffer's free plan, for example, caps scheduled posts per channel.
Buffer's help page on Threads says each post in a multi-post thread counts separately against the 250 published posts per 24 hours. Meta's documentation does not spell that out, so confirm with Meta if you schedule long threads near the ceiling.
Threads and long ideas
When an idea needs more than 500 characters, split it into a thread of connected posts. Each post in the thread keeps to 500. Threadgehog writes whole threads, keeps each post in order and sends them as a real thread through Buffer, Typefully or Postiz.
Publer and Metricool take single posts, so a short thread is joined into one post if it fits the limit.
Checks before you post
Count characters first. If a Threads draft runs past 500, split it into a thread or trim it. If you also post on X, trim the X version under 280.
Count links next. Five or fewer per post.
Then count posts a day. 250 per profile per 24 hours is the API ceiling. Your scheduler may set a lower daily or plan cap. Buffer's free plan, for example, allows 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time.
Threadgehog's connection pages list each scheduler's own limits, such as Publer's daily limits and the scheduled-posts limit for Typefully and Metricool.
Links and your link share
Five links per post is plenty for most accounts. Threadgehog puts your product link in the last post of a thread, and you decide how many posts carry it. See how to grow on Threads.
Threads versus X
X posts allow 280 characters for standard posts, so a Threads draft often needs trimming. Threadgehog writes the Threads version and rewrites it for X, aimed at 280 characters, and keeps the link on the X version. In a thread, the link goes in the last post.
Publer and Metricool take single posts from Threadgehog. Metricool joins parts under 500 characters for Threads and 280 for X.
Practical use
You will almost never hit 250 posts a day. The limit that bites is 500 characters. Count them before you paste a long idea. If you need more room, post a thread: Buffer, Typefully and Postiz send multi-post threads as threads.
Read how often to post on Threads for a sane pace.
Where to confirm
Meta can change these limits. Check developers.facebook.com/docs/threads/posts and developers.facebook.com/docs/threads/overview for the current numbers. We re-checked on October 17, 2026.
Questions
How many characters can a Threads post have?
500 for text posts, per Meta's documentation.
How many posts per day can I publish on Threads?
The API allows 250 published posts per profile in 24 hours.
Do carousels count more?
No. A carousel counts as one post.
How many links can a post have?
Five or fewer. Posts with more than five links fail from December 22, 2025.
Do these limits apply to schedulers?
They publish through the API, so yes. Schedulers add their own caps too.
What is the X limit?
