What Sprout Social is and who uses it
Sprout Social is a social media management suite aimed at professional teams. It combines publishing, a Smart Inbox for messages and comments, analytics and reporting, social listening, employee advocacy and influencer tools. Plans are priced per seat.
Publishing includes a calendar for scheduling across profiles and networks, approval workflows that let internal and external reviewers sign off, an asset library, link tracking and Optimal Send Times, which Sprout says examines 16 weeks of audience data.
The publishing tools also include an asset library that imports from Canva, Bynder, Adobe Experience Manager, Dropbox and Google Drive, URL tracking for Google Analytics, a campaign planner, and content suggestions. Premium Analytics, Listening and Employee Advocacy are sold as add-ons.
The pricing is set for teams that need reporting and customer care. A solo founder gets the same Compose window and calendar as a team and can start on Essentials at $79 a month.
Sprout Social pricing and plans (as of October 2026)
Sprout's pricing page, headed Try Sprout free for 30 days, lists four plans plus Enterprise. Essentials is $79 per seat a month ($99 per seat billed monthly) with 5 social profiles. Standard is $199 per seat a month with 5 profiles, a consolidated inbox, keyword monitoring, review management and the Trellis AI agent. Professional is $299 with unlimited profiles, message tagging and Enhance Post by AI Assist. Advanced is $399 and adds Enhance Reply, sentiment, the Sprout API and team reports. Enterprise is custom.
The page says plans use annual billing and offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card. Premium Analytics, Listening, Employee Advocacy and Professional Services are add-ons on top.
Seats drive the bill. A team of three on Professional comes to $897 a month ($299 times 3) with annual billing. Plans include a mobile app for iOS and Android.
A solo account that posts to Threads and X uses 2 of the 5 profiles on Essentials, so the cost is $79 a month for one seat (as of October 2026), or $948 for a year.
Threads and X support, scheduling and limits
For Threads, Sprout's scheduling guide covers connecting a profile from Account and Settings, picking it in Compose, and scheduling. It lists text-only, image and video posts, with alt text on images. Scheduled posts sit in the publishing calendar next to your other networks.
After connecting, Threads comments appear in the Smart Inbox for replies, and the Threads page says you can compare Threads performance with other networks in reports. Threads sets its own post length: see Threads character limit.
For X, Sprout's X page lists scheduling, queueing and publishing, a shared calendar and ViralPost for picking times. Its scheduling guide describes opening Compose, choosing an X profile, picking one or more dates and times, and clicking Schedule.
Optimal Send Times is available when you schedule, and Sprout describes ViralPost as using your historical performance data to recommend the best posting times. For Threads this means you can pick a time yourself or let Sprout choose one in Compose.
Bulk import is specific: a CSV of up to 350 X posts, with columns for date, time_24hr, message_text and an optional public_image_url, and posts at least 10 minutes apart. The same guidance says each message must be under 280 characters unless the account has X Premium, which allows up to 25,000. See X character limit.
Sprout's AI features
Sprout's AI is called AI Assist, and its AI agent is Trellis. The pricing table lists 100 monthly AI agent credits per seat on every plan. Publishing pages describe caption suggestions and alt text, and Enhance Post by AI Assist, which starts on Professional, to improve a draft.
On the engagement side, Enhance Reply by AI Assist starts on Advanced, and the X page lists AI reply suggestions alongside message classification and routing.
Sprout also describes AI reply suggestions on its X page, paired with message classification and automated routing. Trellis is the AI teammate named on the pricing page for Standard and up, and the page says brand keyword monitoring per group runs from 10 on Standard and Professional to 20 on Advanced.
These tools work on a post or reply you are handling in the moment, inside a team workflow. A solo founder will mostly touch Enhance Post, which needs Professional at $299 per seat a month, so check which AI step you plan to use before choosing a tier.
Using Sprout Social together with Threadgehog
Threadgehog is a Mac app that learns a style from about ten example posts, writes Threads and X posts, and keeps them in a review queue. It sends approved posts to Buffer, Typefully, Publer, Metricool or Postiz. For Sprout, Export only mode gives you the finished posts to paste into Compose.
For a team on Sprout, the split is clear: Sprout keeps approvals, the inbox and reporting for brand channels, while Threadgehog with one of its five schedulers handles the daily drafting for a founder or product account. See the Buffer integration for how the handoff works.
Where Threadgehog fits: drafts and review for Threads and X, from a Mac. It works alongside a suite like Sprout.
Threadgehog is on a waitlist, with a 14-day free trial when it opens. Solo is $29 a month for 2 projects and Pro is $49 for 10, with every feature on every plan. Full details are on the pricing page.
