“How do I start a Threads account from zero with no posts?”

How do I start a Threads account from zero with no posts?

Short answer

Borrow about ten posts from your niche that drew plenty of replies, describe what you promote, and let Threadgehog write your first 30 drafts. Keep the link share (the Posts that include your link setting) at 25%, approve only drafts you would say yourself, and post one to two a day through a scheduler. Swap in your own posts once they do well.

Steps

  1. 1

Days 1 to 2: collect ten posts

Find posts in your niche with lots of replies. Pick accounts about your size. Setup asks for them.

  2. 2

Day 2: describe what you promote

Name it, say what it is and who it is for, add your link, and keep the share at 25%.

  3. 3

Day 3: approve your first 30

Setup ends by writing 30 drafts. Approve the ones you would post, reject the rest.

  4. 4

Days 3 to 14: post one to two a day

Connect a scheduler. Threadgehog sends approved posts on your cadence while the app is open.

  5. 5

    Day 14: read the results

Check which posts drew replies, paste your best into Example posts and rebuild the voice.

You do not need posts of your own

A brand-new account works. Paste about ten posts from your niche that got plenty of replies, from any account, and Threadgehog writes in that style. The app shows you how to find them. Finding 10 to 20 takes about 30 minutes, and the biggest thing you can do for better drafts is pick them well.

On Threads, search a topic your customers care about and open the Top tab. Choose accounts about your size, since huge accounts get likes for their name. Pick posts with lots of replies and skip ones that only work because of a photo, a giveaway or breaking news. The full list is in finding posts that work.

Aim for about two single posts for every thread in your ten. Threadgehog reads each post, or the whole thread if you paste the link to any post in it. For an X post, paste the text. Use up to 20; ten is enough to begin.

If you have no time to look

From Threadgehog 1.1.2, setup has an option: No time? Let Threadgehog research it. It researches your product and what does well in your niche on Threads, then writes your first drafts from it. It is marked not recommended, because posts you pick work better. You can add them any time in Project settings > Example posts.

Start with research if you must, then add real examples within the first week.

If you take the research route, treat the first week as a test. Read each draft carefully, reject anything generic, and then spend 30 minutes adding real example posts. The drafts after that will sound closer to what you want.

The brief: what and who

Setup asks four things: the name of what you promote, what it is and who it is for, your link, and how many posts share the link. For a new account, 25% is the lowest setting and a good one: about 1 in 4 posts mentions your product. Nobody follows an account with no history that only sells.

Then setup writes your first batch of 30 drafts. See how to write in your brand voice for what the six voice notes do.

A small tip on the description: write it the way you would explain the product to a friend in one breath. Drafts reflect the brief closely, so a clear one beats a clever one.

The pace for the first two weeks

One to two posts a day is a sustainable start. Fourteen days at two a day is 28 posts, close to the 30 setup writes. Connect Buffer, Typefully, Publer, Metricool or Postiz, pick a cadence, and let it run while the app is open. Threadgehog picks times spread from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Reply to comments yourself in the first hour after a post goes out. No tool can do that in your voice with your context. More on the routine in how to grow on Threads.

If you hit the end of the 30 drafts before day 14, write another batch. Write drafts adds 3, 10, 20, 30 or 50 at a time, and each new draft counts toward the monthly allowance: 50 in the trial, 300 on Solo.

After day 14

By now you have a handful of posts with numbers. With Buffer, Publer or Postiz connected, Insights shows which beat your typical post. Paste your three best into Example posts and press Rebuild the brand voice, which replaces borrowed style with your own.

Keep reviewing honestly: each approve and reject teaches the next batch. The approve and learn loop shows what to expect. When the numbers hold up, move to a weekly review with the routine on the posting daily page.

Join the waitlist on pricing; the 14-day trial includes 50 AI drafts and starts when it opens.

Expect the first two weeks to feel slow. A new account has no audience yet, and posts from an unknown profile reach few people. That is normal and not a sign the drafts are wrong. Judge the drafts by whether they sound like you, and judge the account by whether you keep posting.

Mistakes new accounts make

Four are common. Linking every post, which reads like an ad from an account with no history. Posting in bursts then going silent. Switching topics every week. Never replying to comments.

Each has a cheap fix inside Threadgehog or alongside it. Keep the share at 25%. Use a daily number you can hold and a scheduler to send. Pick example posts from one niche, since ten from one niche beat twenty from five. Reply yourself in the first hour.

Advice like this comes from practice, not a measured formula. Nobody can promise growth on a new account. What you can control is showing up in a consistent voice with something useful to say.

What setup looks like on day one

You install the Mac app, choose an AI source (Threadgehog AI is included in every plan, or your own key, or your Claude or ChatGPT plan), paste your example posts, and describe what you promote. You connect your scheduler in Settings > Publishing. Setup ends by writing 30 drafts into Pending.

The whole thing is built to get you to a first reviewable batch in one sitting. If you paste ten posts, expect the first look at drafts to be the point where you learn the most. Be honest with approvals.

The Mac needs Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 14 or later. The 14-day free trial includes every feature and 50 AI drafts, and starts when the app opens. The app is on a waitlist now.

Questions

Do I need a following first?

No. A new account works, and Threadgehog writes from the posts you borrow.

Is it okay to borrow another account's posts?

You paste them as examples so Threadgehog can learn which styles get replies. It writes new posts about your product in those styles, and you replace them with your own later.

How many posts should I post at first?

One to two a day is a sustainable start. See how often to post on Threads.

Should I put my link in every post?

No. Keep the share at 25% at first. Raise it later for launches.

Does it work for X too?

Yes. It writes an X version of every Threads post you approve.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 14 or later, plus a scheduler account such as Buffer.

When can I start?

The Mac app is on a waitlist. The 14-day free trial starts when it opens.
